Akademie für Theater und Digitalität (Academy for Theatre and Digitality) / Theater Dortmund
Michael Eickhoff
Dramaturge
Michael Eickhoff has worked as a dramaturge and producer at various theatres for 20 years. His interests include international exchange, networking between the most diverse social discourses and actors. Moreover he is interested in the intersection between journalism, political activism and theatre forms of the documentary. He has been working as a dramaturge at Schauspiel Dortmund for 10 years and most recently helped build up the Academy for Theatre and Digitality there.
Yvonne Dicketmüller is a trained puppeteer with a background in electrical engineering. In her artistic practice she likes to combine these seemingly separate domains of knowledge into engaging theatrical work. Her work spans from classical, analogue puppetry to little autonomous cardboard robots arranged in a puppet-installation. She explores textile art and its possibilities when combined with technology. In 2020 she produced several woven speakers that were shown at Kunstmuseum Bochum in 2021 and the Art Space festival in Bremerhaven. For her fellowship project at the Akademie für Theater und Digitalität she researches mechatronics as well as the possibilities of new manufacturing techniques such as 3d-printing and laser-cutting and how they can be used in the domain of costume design.
About Workshop:
This is a 6-hour introductory workshop to the world of e-textiles. We will explore different e-textiles and learn to use them in combination with a micro-controller-board specifically designed to work in combination with textiles. We will explore how we can use our knowledge of textile manufacturing techniques such as sewing and embroidery to design textiles switches and sensors. During this class you will produce several textile sample swatches to take home to inspire you to think about e-textiles in the theatre context.
Academy for Theatre and Digitality (Akademie für Theater und Digitalität)
The Academy is the expression and result of our work at Schauspiel Dortmund and in particular in the examination of questions of digitalisation for the field of drama. The following questions have been important for us in the past six years while we were preparing the Academie:
To answer all these questions and to take a step out of the perceived need, the team around Schauspiel Dortmund’s Artistic Director Kay Voges founded the Academy for Theater and Digitality. The Academy officially started its operation in January 2019 thanks to the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Science (Nordrhein-Westfalen), of the a European EFRE-Fund, of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes and thanks to the local government of Dortmund which garanties a new building for the Academie in the future digital port. Meanwhile the Academie is focusing in particular on four key areas:

Luise Ehrenwerth
Fellow at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality from 09/2021 to 01/2022
Luise Ehrenwerth is a costume designer, stage designer and scenographer, working as a freelancer since her diploma from the Academy of Fine Art Dresden in 2018. One of the main areas of interest in her artistic work is the diverse sensorial ways of perceiving scenic spaces and their influence on the people who interact with them. In her fellowship project connecting:stitches she explores the possibilities of bringing together costume making and digital technologies through combining textile manufacturing methods with Augmented Reality and 3D-modelling.
About Workshop:
In the workshop we will manufacture textile image marker for Augmented Reality on jute bags to carry them around the world – it's wearable AR!
You will learn the basics of textile manufacturing methods like stitching, sewing, etc. to create individual textile art pieces (don't be afraid of the handcrafts if you are new to that!). Using the game engine Unity we will build an easy AR-app for your own smartphones to put a virtual overlay on your personal textile image markers.
