Interactive Stage – motion tracking for life control of digital media on stage
Chris Ziegler is a director, digital artist, and architect of numerous international interdisciplinary projects in dance, performing and new media arts. He hold a position as Assistant Professor for Interactive Media at Arizona State University (ASU) where he was developing immersive environments for theatre stages.
Since the mid 90s he researches the impact and use of Interactivity, Augmented and Virtual Reality in the performing arts on stage. 2018 he was member of the European Theatre Lab, developing digital tools for site specific theatre performances. Since he first received the "Young Art and New Media Award" of the City of Munich, his productions are performed and shown internationally.
He was also Nominee for the Monaco Digital Dance Forum Award and won several Design Awards, such as the New York I.D. Design Bronze and Silver Awards and others and was invited to show his works twice at Ars Electronic Festival Linz, Austria
In this workshop Chris Ziegler will share his skills setting up an interactive environment on stage. In the first part of the workshop the participants will learn to use simple tools for position tracking of actors/dancers moving on stage changing sound and lights on the fly. In the second half we want to use a motion tracking suit to change lights and sound with movement of the body. Finally we start working on character creation and life animation of virtual characters. This part will be continued later in more advanced workshops.
