The main essence of this drama is to make people understand one truth. Each one of us vainly
imagines themselves as “a whole” and indivisible being, when in reality we are made of
innumerable phantoms. As many of them as the circumstances allow us to reveal. Each of us
has the ability to show one with one, another with another. But at the same time, we live with
the illusion as if we are the same with everyone. That in every action we keep our "whole
inner essence"!
Review
If someone is said to be a fan of Luigi Pirandello in Georgia, it is probably director Gogi Margvelashvili. Years
ago, "Six Characters in Search of an Author" staged in the Tumanishvili Theater is now almost a part of
theatrical mythology, and it is not easy at all in the theater that bears Tumanishvili's name.
This time, Giorgi Margvelsvili choses a relatively unknown and early play by Pirandello ("It's so, if you think
it's so"), when the theater language of the "Pirandello Theater" did not yet exist and the playwright, like
Chekhov's Konstantin Treplev, was looking for new forms.
The word brought and we also must say that Giorgi Margvelashvili is the "master chef" of Chekhov, Kldiashvili
and Pirandello in today's Georgian theater.
The essential point is that with this performance the director tries to preserve the forms of play, illusion, feeling
and coexistence that were organic to Tumanishvili's theater and which today contains slightly museum-like and
dangerous nostalgic notes.
It's an adventure haunted theater - at home, it's a kind of illusion that we're still where we want to be...but in the
action and the attempt to bring the characters to life with newness, there is a grain of sad madness and an
indigestible past.
It's almost like Fellini's opera divas of the old generation in the movie "...And the Ship Sails"

“We came to change everything in the theatre” – Mikhail Tumanishvili (1921 – 1996)
In 1975 School of Theatrical Arts and Film Actors Theatre was established and began
operating on the platform of Film Studio “Kartuli Pilmis” (“Georgian Films”). In 1978 it was
officially opened by Mikhail Tumanishvili with his students. Tumanishvili was a driving
force in reforming of Georgian theatre in the 20th century. He was a director of drama and
opera, Creator of Georgian Television Theatre, Professor at the University of Arts, theorist
and educator.
From inception, the School of Theatrical Arts and Film Actors Theatre took a prominent
position in the Georgian and international industry of arts. Over a period of years the
theatrical school participated in festivals of art in Europe, USA, Latin America and Australia
where they numerous awards.
The artistic group in this theatre, both directors and actors, has been educated by
Tumanishvili himself or through his methods. The artistic group continues to seek out new
methods and forms to use within the theatrical industry and offer many interesting plays to
spectators. In recent times the theatre internationally co-produced several performances of
unique methods and aesthetics.
Tumanishvili’s Film Actors Theatre is a government funded entity. Two stages operate
within the theatre; the main stage resembles the stage of Shakespeare Globe Theatres, this
stage does not have a backstage or a curtain. This stage was built with Tumanishvili’s design
and is surrounded by audience on three sides. In 2012 the minor stage was built and is used
for theatrical research and educational purposes.
In the foyer of the theatre there is an art gallery and art café.
