Genre – Tragicomedy

The play “Pirosmani” is a play created on the principles of puppet theater, telling the story 

about the life and work of the genius Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani. The artist, who, despite 

fate, hardships and public opinion, does not lose his human face, remains faithful to such 

values as love, loyalty, dignity, compassion for people and his behavior and gives a creative 

example to others.

While working on text, one of the main goals of the creative group was to destroy the 

stereotype of “alcoholic, poor and pitiful artist” living under the stairs. Such myth was 

created during the Soviet period and is still taught in schools. “The Wandering Moon 

Theater” shares the story of the life of a strong personality and a genius artist, who, despite of

life tragedies, was able to find spiritual strength, overcame all obstacles and remained as 

forever icon in the minds of the Georgian nation and History of Art.

The performance is a theatrical experiment, with different approaches of form and content. 

From the point of view of the form, it is expressed by the synthesis of puppets, fingers and 

dramatic theater. At the same time, “Pirosmani” is an educational play for the young 

generation and at the same time for the foreign guests.
