"Jako's Khiznebi" - is the story of one man and one country. While the enemy does not sleep
and has turned the Georgian land into a road , Teimuraz Khevistavi simply is slumbring. His
House is filled with guests, as if it is hotel, and the host closes his eyes, hears nothing and
says nothing. The ancestral estate of the Khevistavis has turned into a well-equipped hotel
which serves vizitors. And he behaves as if he is a guest in his own estate, in his own
homeland. Hopeless, sinking, used to fate, saddened by the past, dissatisfied with modern
times and hopeless. However, very soon everything changes and you see the future from a
completely different angle and perspective... that's hope. Hope, that very important and
decisive news are coming… The play is about threats and challenges that represent the fate of
a small country.
A small country fighting for independence and freedom. The fight is uncompromising and
the small country achieves freedom in the finale of the play. With forgiveness and hope for a
new, kind and exciting future.
Review
n 1937, the victim of the "Red Terror" Georgian writer Mikheil Javakhishvili's novel "The Ghosts of Jako"
(1924) always has a place in the Georgian theater and always maintains its contemporaneity. The "time" of the
"jakko" (the ascended violent and savage) can always be returned, because it adapts and governs all
circumstances, all societies - which it conquers, destroys - morally and physically. In the dramatic theater of
Poti, with the new version of the young director Nika Chikvaidze, the problems in the novel were adapted to
today's reality and acquired a new face, load and expression
The director left the signs, clues, symbols and codes in the performance built using cinematographic methods
(divided into frames, views, parallel action and layers, shading, lighting, details highlighted by lighting,
alternation of perspectives, events) to be solved and deciphered by the director, and it can be said that he left
them as a puzzle. according to the personal responsibility of each
The concise, conditional and abstracted narrative and the sharply defined, typical faces of the acting characters
generally reflect the image of an unprincipled, incompetent and submissive society, which becomes a victim
because it agrees to be a victim, and in the play it is transformed from a character into a symbol of precious
losses of the homeland, self, dignity and honor.
Poti State Theater was named after Valerian Gunia in 1963. In 1982, Poti Theater celebrated
its hundredth anniversary.
Today Poti Theater with its long history is a young, modern, dynamically developing
theater. The task of the theater is to offer the audience a high-quality productions that
strongly expresses the demands and challenges of our reality. Both classical works and plays
of modern playwrights are staged in the Poti Theater. The theater tries to direct the creative
process towards the release of modern, topical plays, often speaking boldly about taboos. The
theater actively cooperates with various theaters and international festivals, both in Georgia
and abroad.
Young Georgian directors are actively staged in Poti's State Theate together with already
estbalished directors, young playwrights, scenographers, choreographers, composers and
actors . The theatre searches for a new theatrical language constantly. The main principle and
criterion of our work is to be modern and the main criterion of quality is the relevanceintensity and artistic value of the created products.
