About the performance:

The world is on fire. The lust for love, the painstaking search for identity, piercing depression, and the constant uncertainty of sexuality—aren’t they all a part of the ongoing natural catastrophe that fuels our daily anxieties and the pervasive environmental melancholy?

Fire is a documentary performance based on the personal stories of its five participants. Its main themes include love, searching for identity, depression, sexuality, and fear of the future. These personal experiences are conveyed through the allegory of a natural disaster, revealing the symmetry between the environmental crisis and the individual emotional landscape.

In Fire, everything is constantly burning, while the participants remain bewildered about the origin and reasons of the ongoing catastrophe. The fragments of their memories transform into escapist social media reels accompanied by the perpetual loops of the TikTok trend ‘This is not real, it’s just a dream. Please, please, please wake up! Wake up! Wake up!’. Can it be the escape route from the liminality that confines us?

The performance is produced as a part of the OpenSpace Student Platform workshop, with the financial support of Swiss Agency of Development and Cooperation

Open Space | Center for Performing & Visual Arts is an independent art company in Georgia that seeks to foster experimental visual and performing arts by curating, producing, and hosting artistic projects of local and international artists.

The centre works as a platform for social and cultural exchange where the general public can discover the creative process and works of contemporary artists from diverse fields.

Its programme provides artists with an inclusive environment for working across different artistic disciplines and makes their work available to all.

It aims to discover emerging artists and give them the opportunity to develop professional skills, express themselves creatively, connect with other artists, and enjoy complete creative freedom in self-realisation.

Located six kilometres from the city centre in a post-industrial area of a former electric motor factory, Open Space's location presents an attempt to decentralise the cultural process of Tbilisi and create a new socialisation point that attracts a diverse audience.

The centre's annual program comprises temporary exhibitions, performances, plays, musical events, workshops, and discussions.
