"The Beauty Queen of Leenane", a play by Martin McDonagh, is a dark comedy that portrays

a modern world where fairy tale archetypes come to life. The Beauty Queen of Leenane is

Maureen Folan, a woman in her forties who is trapped at home by her mother. Due to a tragic

reason, Maureen is forced to care for her mother until her mother's death.

The play explores the impact of economic exploitation, emigration, poverty, and the postcolonial environment on people's lives. It also addresses themes of domestic violence and

mental health, and delves into how being confined in a closed space affects individuals and

how the people closest to us can limit our freedom, turning freedom from them into a distant dream.

Review

Linnaeus' Beauty Queen (based on the play by Martin McDonough) is a bold and uncompromising statement by

director David Tharba. Multidimensional - in terms of problem, genre and artistic form , the play combines

organically transitioning of drama, melodrama, romantic and communication "intrigue", erotica, detective;

ethnic, social, political or public conflict; It concentrates on imagination, reality, surreality, and finally, tragedy.

Along with raising political, ethnic and personal intolerance, for various reasons, unsolved personal or social

problems, the play also includes judgments about other contemporary and general human issues - about the

breakdown of relationships between people, unfulfilled dreams, unattainable goals, hopelessness, loneliness.

We are "city theater"- a completely independent multifunctional space, which we build with

our own hands, and for the second year we are trying to create a space in Georgia, where

people who love theater will have the opportunity to come and get to know the “ kitchen” of

the theater up close - behind the scenes , backstage, the preparation and rehearsal process, see

and hear everything they are interested in. This is where the idea of the name of the theater

came from.

Our space is always open for young artists along with professional and experienced art

representatives. Students who are taking their first career steps with us are actively involved

in stage design and creation of costumes. Students - future directors, actors and

representatives of other artistic fields are also working with us . We also have volunteers who

participate directly in construction works, and most of them are students of various

universities.
